Introduction
The Advanced Sustainable Technology International Conference (ASTECH) 2024 marks the collaborative initiation between Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) Malaysia and Politeknik Negeri Banding (POLBAN) Indonesia, and is a significant milestone as the first international conference organized by POLBAN and co-organized by PKS. Set to take place from August 5th to 6th in Kuching Sarawak Malaysia, this distinguished assembly aspires to bring together global academics, scholars, researchers, and industry experts, fostering a dynamic research and innovation ecosystem. Aligned with Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) and sustainability principles, ASTECH 2024 encourages exploration of state-of-art technologies in engineering, technology, sciences, TVET, and education.
As the primary sponsor for ASTECH 2024, the Ministry of Education, Innovation & Talent Development Sarawak, (MEITD) highlights its commitment to fostering education, innovation and talent development, essential for educational excellence, future-proof workforce and sustainable growth in the region. By supporting initiatives such as WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak, MEITD advocates for vocational, technological, and service-oriented education and talent development. WorldSkills Malaysia, an international organization, hosts biennial "Skills Olympics" competitions, where young professionals worldwide demonstrate their expertise in various skills. This initiative underscores the importance of skilled professionals in economic development and personal success, aligning with Sarawak's mission to empower future generations through skills-based education and careers. Through these efforts, MEITD aims to create a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem, enhancing Sarawak's competitiveness globally and ensuring long-term economic prosperity.
The ASTECH 2024 Conference will host 170 research paper presentations from participants across seven countries, focusing on advancing TVET education and sustainability. The event provides a platform for educators, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to share insights and innovations. It includes a townhall session, an exhibition, and a forum by distinguished speakers in TVET education and sustainability, contributing to Sarawak's efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Nearly 600 students and educators from various institutions will attend. Sponsors include Biomedix Solution Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Skills, with support from several esteemed collaborators like BIMB-EAGA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), SIDMA College Sarawak, Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT), Technological Association Malaysia (TAM) Sarawak Branch, and Iloilo Philippine University.
